This summer I’ve started a new storytime called Storytime for Scooters aka storytime for babies ages 0-3. We never really had a baby storytime before and since I got put in charge of the early literacy portion of the library I thought we needed one. I’ve been doing Mother Goose on the Loose for this age group since last fall & had a pretty loyal following of 10 or so kids so I decided this summer would be a great time to start baby storytime (and baby summer reading but I won’t even go in to all that). Today was the first day. I think it was relatively successful for a first time. Here’s a summary of what we’re going to do every week and then I’ll post outlines for each storytime later.
Each week will be a different topic that goes along with the Collaborative Summer Reading Theme which is, Dig Into Reading! That means a lot of gardens, underground animals, veggies blah blah. We will also have free play time afterwards & a hand or footprint craft. Check out these articles that show why play is such an important part of babies life.
