OPENING SONG

BOOK

Romping Monsters, Stomping Monsters by Jane Yolen

SONG

(Tune: If You’re Happy & you Know it)

This is also a book if you want to read and sing at the same time. My library didn’t have the book so we just sang the song. It also gave the kids an opportunity to make up their own ideas of what a monster would do instead of just following the book.

If you’re a monster and you know it wiggle your claws…

Stomp your paws…

Snort your nose…

Twitch your tail…

Growl real loud…

Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley

This book is good in a flannel board or they make hand puppets for it also.

SONG

Head shoulders knees and toes

SONG

I passed out scarves and we sang This is the Way we Wash Our Face

BOOK

The I’m Not Scared Book by Todd Parr

I got some gasps at the beginning of storytime when I told them we were talking about monsters. Gah! Scary! So I read this book last and told them some things they’re scared of are actually okay, like monsters.
