Summer Storytime: Gardening 0-3

During the summer I have two storytimes on Wednesdays. One for the 0-3 crowd (my usual bunch) and one for the 3+ crowd (the new option). The younger storytime has free play afterwards and the older storytime has a craft. This is my outline for the 0-3 bunch.

Plant a Kiss by Amy Krause Rosenthal

SONG

(Tune: The Farmer in the Dell)

First we’ll turn the soil, first we’ll turn the soil

Hi-ho the derry-o, the garden in the yard.

(dig with hands)

Then we’ll dig a hole, then we’ll dig a hole

Hi-ho the derry-o, the garden in the yard.

(plant in front)

Next we’ll plant the seeds, next we’ll plant the seeds

Hi-ho the derry-o, the garden in the yard.

(hand over hand)

We’ll cover them with dirt, we’ll cover them with dirt

Hi-ho the derry-o, the garden in the yard.

(watering can)

The rain falls gently down, the rain falls gently down

Hi-ho the derry-o, the garden in the yard.

(wiggle fingers to the ceiling)

Soon the plants will grow, soon the plants will grow

Hi-ho the derry-o, the garden in the yard.

Rooting for You by Susan Hood

SONG

One little, two little, three little flowers,

Four little, five little, six little flowers,

Seven little, eight little, nine little flowers,

Peeping through the ground.

Give them rain and lots of sunshine,

Give them rain and lots of sunshine,

Give them rain and lots of sunshine,

So they’ll grow up tall.

Butterflies… flying in the sky

Ants… marching on the ground

Ladybugs… crawling on the leaves
